The Ethical Treatment of Animals

Why is being kind to animals important?

At Sweet Home Industries, we believe that the way we treat animals is a reflection of our character. We believe that animals have feelings. We believe that animals experience pain...and pleasure. We believe that humans are not above nature, but are a part of nature. We believe that humans are enriched through contact and relationships with animals and nature.

The fact that animals do not manifest symbolic language or exhibit the higher reasoning we humans take such great pride in does not make them inferior to us. If anything, it makes them more dependent on us, and more deserving of our empathy and our mercy. Animals, like our children, are the innocents among us. They have no voice unless we afford them one.

Like child abuse, cruel and unethical treatment of animals by humans is a reflection of our collective character — a sign that something is not right in our society. Our hope is for a society in which all such innocents are given a voice as well as the love and respect they deserve.

Did you know? There are an estimated 5,500 pets born per hour in the U.S. For every human born 7 kittens and puppies are born. One female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in 7 years. One female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in 6 years.
