Polydipsia/Polyuria in Cats Our older cat Lola has a condition which causes her to drink water excessively and, consequently, to urinate excessively. Excessive thirst is called polydipsia and excessive urination is called polyuria. Lola is doing fine on her special diet, but her condition leads to a much messier litter pan than normal and huge clumps. Lola helped inspire us to invent the DuraScoop.
